Put photos inside cute shapes on top of your photo
Shape Frames is a free online tool that puts your photos inside cute shapes, right on top of one main picture. Start with a selfie, a photo with your friends or any picture you love, then add a heart, a star, a butterfly, a bow or another shape. Tap the shape and choose a different photo to go inside it. In just a few taps, you have a cute edit with several photos in one picture.
In other words, it is an easy way to add a photo on top of another photo (some apps call this a photo overlay). Your main picture stays in the background, and every shape on top of it shows another photo — so you can combine photos without covering your whole picture. It is not a grid collage maker with ready-made layouts: you place every shape yourself, wherever you like.
You don’t need any editing experience or an account. Just upload your photo and start adding shapes. You choose every photo and decide where each shape goes: nothing uses AI to change your face, and your finished picture has no watermark.
What can you make with it?
- Photos inside hearts for Valentine’s Day, your best friend’s birthday or a special day together — your favourite photos inside little hearts around a picture of you two.
- A best friends edit — a group photo with each friend’s face inside their own star, bow or butterfly.
- Pet photos — your cat inside the Cat shape, your dog inside the Bear, a cloud or a circle.
- Scrapbook and journal pages — photos inside a Stamp, a Flower or a Scallop circle, with little drawings around them.
- A dreamy night-sky edit — photos inside a Moon and some Stars on a dark picture.

How to put a picture in a heart shape
Putting a picture in a heart shape is easy. Upload your main photo, tap Heart and choose another photo to put inside it. Tap Heart again to add more hearts, each with its own photo, and move them around your picture until you like how they look. You can also mix hearts with stars, bows or butterflies. It’s a cute idea for your best friend, someone special or Valentine’s Day.
How to put a photo inside a shape
- Upload your main photo. Tap the upload box and choose any photo from your phone or computer — iPhone photos work too.
- Choose a shape. In the Frames tab, tap the shape you like. It appears on your photo in grey with a plus sign.
- Add a photo to it. Tap the grey shape and choose the photo that should go inside.
- Place the photo inside the shape. Adjust photo opens by itself. Move the photo with your finger and make it bigger or smaller until the part you want shows, then tap Done.
- Move the shape where you want it. Drag it anywhere on your picture. Pull a corner, or use two fingers, to make it bigger, smaller or turn it.
- Add more if you like. Add more shapes, draw something cute, and choose what goes in front in Layers.
- Save it. Tap Download to save your picture, or Share to Pinterest.
Move the shape or the photo inside it
When you tap a shape, three buttons appear: Move shape, Adjust photo and Outline. The first two decide what your finger moves, so you never move the wrong thing by mistake:
- Move shape — your finger moves the whole shape around your picture. Pull the corner handles, or use two fingers on the screen, to change its size and turn it.
- Adjust photo — the shape stays still and your finger moves the photo inside it. Use two fingers, the mouse wheel or the − and + buttons to make the photo bigger or smaller. Tap Done when you’re happy with how it looks.
You can also double-tap a shape to switch between Move shape and Adjust photo. The photo always fills the whole shape, so there are never empty corners inside it. If you want to see the hidden parts of the photo outside the shape while you place it, turn on Show the rest of the photo while adjusting.
Draw, change shapes and add cute details
After adding your photos, you can keep changing your picture. Replace photo puts a different photo in the same shape without moving it, Reset brings the photo back to how it was when you first added it, and Duplicate makes a copy of the shape and its photo in one tap. To delete a shape, tap the small × on its corner. The Undo and Redo arrows above your picture take a step back or forward, so you can try ideas without worry.
Tap Outline to give a shape a coloured border. Turn on Add an outline, pick white, pink, black or any colour you like, and move the Thickness slider. Each shape can have its own outline, and it is saved in your picture too.
Layers shows a list of every shape and drawing on your picture. The top of the list is in front. Drag a row up or down, or use the arrows, to choose what appears in front and what stays behind. Tap the bin on a row to delete that shape or drawing — and if you change your mind, Undo brings it back.
Open the Draw tab to add hearts, sparkles, outlines or your name in your own handwriting. Choose a colour, the brush size and the Opacity (how see-through your drawing is), then try a brush style such as glow, neon, rainbow or hearts & stars. There is also an eraser, Undo and Clear.
Tap New layer to start a new drawing on top of everything. Then, in Layers, you can move that drawing under one shape and over another — for example, sparkles behind a heart but in front of your main photo. You can have up to 10 drawings.
Download your picture or share it on Pinterest
When your picture is ready, tap Download to save it. Your picture is saved at the same size as your main photo, not as a small preview, so start with a clear photo. Very large photos are saved a little smaller so they work well on every phone. Grey shapes you left empty are not saved — only the shapes with photos.
You can also tap Share to Pinterest. Pinterest opens with your finished picture, ready to pin. A copy of your picture is uploaded for a short time only to make the Pin.
Tips for a cute result
- Start with a clear main photo where the person or pet is easy to see.
- Choose photos where the face is in the middle for small shapes like stars and hearts, because they show the centre of the photo.
- Use Adjust photo to move and zoom each picture until the face, pet or detail you want fits nicely inside the shape.
- Overlap shapes for a layered look, and use Layers to choose which one is in front.
- Pick photos with soft pastel colours for a kawaii look, and add pink hearts and sparkles around your shapes with Draw.
How to make the anime star eye edit
In this trend, one of your eyes is covered by a star that shows an anime character’s eye. Here’s how to make it yourself, by hand, with no AI:
- Upload a selfie or a photo of a friend where the eyes are easy to see.
- Add a Star (or a Puffy star) and choose a close-up picture of an anime eye for it.
- Move the star over one eye, then make it bigger or smaller and turn it until it fits.
- Use Adjust photo to put the anime eye right in the middle of the star.
- Add a few sparkles with Draw if you like, then download.
You can also use a Heart instead of a star, or a black-and-white manga picture — you can make any photo black and white first with our free Aesthetic Photo Filters. Please only use pictures you made yourself or are allowed to use.
